The Market Rent API provides statistics derived from information gathered from bonds lodged with Tenancy Services in New Zealand. The REST API base URL is https://api.business.govt.nz/gateway/tenancy-services/market-rent/v2/ and all requests require an API key in the request header.

How do I authenticate with the Market Rent API?
The API uses an API key authentication mechanism passed via an HTTP header. The header name is 'Ocp-Apim-Subscription-Key'.
1. Get your credentials
- Visit the official developer portal (e.g., https://portal.api.business.govt.nz/api/market-rent). 2. Create an account and log in. 3. Navigate to the 'Products' or 'API' section and subscribe to the 'Market Rent API'. 4. Once approved, go to your 'My Subscriptions' or 'Dashboard' page. 5. Generate your API subscription key. Note that you may need to distinguish between sandbox and production keys.
2. Add them to .dlt/secrets.toml

How do I set up and run the pipeline?
Set up a virtual environment and install dlt:

1. Install the dlt AI harness:

3. Start LLM-assisted coding:
Use /find-source to load data from the Market Rent API into DuckDB.

4. Run the pipeline:

This example loads area-definitions and statistics from the Market Rent API into DuckDB. It mirrors the endpoint and data selector configuration from the table above:

To add more endpoints, append entries from the resource table to the "resources" list using the same name, path, and data_selector pattern.
How do I query the loaded data?
Once the pipeline runs, dlt creates one table per resource. You can query with Python or SQL.
Python (pandas DataFrame):
