Censhare Headless CMS (HCMS) provides a REST API for managing assets, schemas, and system configuration within the Censhare ecosystem. The REST API base URL is http://<host>:<port>/hcms/v2.0/ and supports JWT (Bearer) and HTTP Basic authentication.
dlt is an open-source Python library that handles authentication, pagination, and schema evolution automatically. dlthub provides AI context files that enable code assistants to generate production-ready pipelines. Install with uv add "dlt[hub]" and start loading censhare data in under 10 minutes.
What data can I load from censhare?
Here are some of the endpoints you can load from censhare:

How do I authenticate with the censhare API?
The API supports JWT-based authentication passed via an 'Authorization: Bearer ' header. HTTP Basic authentication is also supported as an alternative method.
1. Get your credentials
Censhare does not provide a centralized 'API key dashboard' for REST API access. Instead, authentication must be configured by an administrator on the server side within the Headless CMS (HCMS) configuration or server settings. To obtain access credentials: 1. Ensure your user account is set to 'internal authentication' rather than an external provider like Keycloak, as external authentication often does not work for the standard REST API. 2. For basic authentication, ask your Censhare administrator to define a user in the HCMS server module (Authorization section), assigning a username and password. 3. Alternatively, if using JWT-based authentication, the administrator must configure the JWT provider in the HCMS configuration XML file (auth > jwt element) and provide you with a valid JWT token generated according to their configured secret or PEM public key.
2. Add them to .dlt/secrets.toml

dlt reads this automatically at runtime — never hardcode tokens in your pipeline script. For production environments, see setting up credentials with dlt for environment variable and vault-based options.
How do I set up and run the pipeline?
Set up a virtual environment and install dlt:

1. Install the dlt AI harness:

3. Start LLM-assisted coding:
Use /find-source to load data from the censhare API into DuckDB.
The rest-api-pipeline toolkit takes over from here — it reads relevant API documentation, presents you with options for which endpoints to load, and follows a structured workflow to scaffold, debug, and validate the pipeline step by step.
4. Run the pipeline:

If everything is configured correctly, you'll see output like this:

Inspect your pipeline and data:

This opens the Pipeline Dashboard where you can verify pipeline state, load metrics, schema (tables, columns, types), and query the loaded data directly.
Python pipeline example
This example loads /auth/whoami and /hcms/v2.0/entity from the censhare API into DuckDB. It mirrors the endpoint and data selector configuration from the table above:

To add more endpoints, append entries from the resource table to the "resources" list using the same name, path, and data_selector pattern.
How do I query the loaded data?
Once the pipeline runs, dlt creates one table per resource. You can query with Python or SQL.
Python (pandas DataFrame):
