Load TikTok Business data to DuckDB

Build a TikTok Business to DuckDB pipeline with your coding agent. One prompt scaffolds it with the dltHub AI harness, plus the TikTok Business API base URL, auth, endpoints, and incremental loading.

SourceTikTok BusinessDestinationDuckDBIn-process analytical database. The default local destination for dlt pipelines.

TikTok Business API provides programmatic access to TikTok's advertising, campaign management, and reporting services. Everything needed to build a working TikTok Business → DuckDB pipeline is on this page: the API's base URL, authentication, endpoints, pagination and incremental field — plus a prompt that hands the whole job to your coding agent.

Build your TikTok Business to DuckDB pipeline

Paste this prompt into Claude, Codex, or Cursor. The agent does the rest.

Prompt
Run uvx dlthub-init@latest to build a pipeline from TikTok Business to DuckDB and run it on dltHub

That scaffolds a dltHub workspace and installs the dltHub AI harness — the project rules, the secrets-management skill, and the dlt MCP server your agent needs to work safely. From there it reads the TikTok Business API, proposes the endpoints to load, then writes, runs and validates the pipeline while you review rather than type. Credentials are inspected through MCP tools, so your agent never reads secrets.toml itself. How the LLM-native workflow works →

Prefer to write it yourself? Every fact the agent uses is below.

TikTok Business API at a glance

Base URLhttps://business-api.tiktok.com
Example endpointGET open_api/v1.3/campaign/get/
Records found atdata.list
Authenticationall requests require an Access-Token header or an Authorization Bearer token depending on the endpoint version — sent in the Authorization header, prefixed Bearer
PaginationPage-number via cursor, page size via page_size (default 10, max 1000). The API primarily uses page number-based pagination via the 'page' and 'page_size' parameters. Some newer or specific endpoints may support cursor-based pagination using a 'cursor' parameter and a 'limit' parameter. 'page_info' is returned in the response metadata.

These values come from the TikTok Business API reference — the authoritative source if anything here looks out of date.

How do I authenticate with the TikTok Business API?

The TikTok Marketing API uses OAuth 2.0 and requires an Access-Token in the request header for subsequent calls, while newer v2 endpoints typically utilize the Authorization header with a Bearer token.

1. Get your credentials

  1. Register for a developer account at the TikTok for Developers portal (developers.tiktok.com). 2. Navigate to Manage Apps and select Connect a new app. 3. Fill in your application details (name, description, website) and select the required products/capabilities, such as Marketing API. 4. Once your app is created and approved, navigate to the App Dashboard. 5. Copy your Client Key (App ID) and Client Secret. 6. For API calls, use these credentials to perform an OAuth 2.0 flow: direct the user to the authorization URL, obtain the auth_code from the redirect, and POST it along with your Client Key and Client Secret to the token exchange endpoint to receive an Access Token.

2. Add them to .dlt/secrets.toml

[sources.tiktok_business_source] tiktok_client_key = "your_client_key_here" tiktok_client_secret = "your_client_secret_here" tiktok_advertiser_id = "your_advertiser_id_here" tiktok_access_token = "your_access_token_here"

dlt reads this file automatically at runtime. With the harness, the setup-secrets skill prompts you for the values and never handles the raw credential in chat. For production, see setting up credentials with dlt.

What TikTok Business data can I load into DuckDB?

These are the TikTok Business endpoints dlt can load into DuckDB:

ResourceEndpointMethodData selectorDescription
campaigns/open_api/v1.3/campaign/get/GETdata.listRetrieve a list of advertising campaigns
ad_groups/open_api/v1.3/adgroup/get/GETdata.listRetrieve a list of ad groups
ads/open_api/v1.3/ad/get/GETdata.listRetrieve a list of ads
advertisers/open_api/v1.3/advertiser/info/GETdata.listRetrieve information about ad accounts
tt_videos/open_api/v1.3/tt_video/list/GETdata.listRetrieve a list of TikTok videos authorized for Spark Ads

How do I load only new TikTok Business records?

The TikTok Business API reference does not document a timestamp or sequence field for these endpoints, so there is nothing to advertise here as verified. Pick a field from the endpoints table above that increases with every write, then set it as the cursor_path.

{"name": "campaigns", "endpoint": { "path": "open_api/v1.3/campaign/get/", # Replace with a field that increases on every write. "incremental": {"cursor_path": "REPLACE_ME", "initial_value": "2024-01-01T00:00:00Z"}, }}

On the first run dlt loads everything from initial_value; on every run after that it requests only what changed and appends with write_disposition="merge" if you set a primary key. See incremental loading.

What does the generated TikTok Business pipeline look like?

A standard dlt REST API pipeline — the same code you would write by hand, loading /open_api/v1.3/oauth2/access_token/ and /open_api/v1.3/oauth2/advertiser/get/ from the TikTok Business API into DuckDB:

import dlt from dlt.sources.rest_api import RESTAPIConfig, rest_api_resources @dlt.source def tiktok_business_source(access_token=dlt.secrets.value): config: RESTAPIConfig = { "client": { "base_url": "https://business-api.tiktok.com", "auth": {"type": "bearer", "token": access_token}, }, "resources": [ {"name": "campaigns", "endpoint": {"path": "open_api/v1.3/campaign/get/", "data_selector": "data.list"}}, {"name": "ad_groups", "endpoint": {"path": "open_api/v1.3/adgroup/get/", "data_selector": "data.list"}} ], } yield from rest_api_resources(config) def load_tiktok_business_to_duckdb() -> None: pipeline = dlt.pipeline( pipeline_name="tiktok_business_pipeline", destination="duckdb", dataset_name="tiktok_business_data", ) load_info = pipeline.run(tiktok_business_source()) print(load_info) if __name__ == "__main__": load_tiktok_business_to_duckdb()

Run it with python tiktok_business_pipeline.py. The agent iterates on this until it loads cleanly — you review and approve, rather than write it from scratch.

How do I query TikTok Business data in DuckDB?

dlt creates one table per resource. Query the loaded data with Python or SQL — or ask your agent to, through the MCP server's execute_sql_query tool.

Python (pandas DataFrame):

import dlt data = dlt.pipeline("tiktok_business_pipeline").dataset() df = data.campaigns.df() print(df.head())

SQL:

SELECT * FROM tiktok_business_data.campaigns LIMIT 10;

See querying your data with dataset and exploring it in marimo notebooks.

How do I deploy the TikTok Business to DuckDB pipeline in production?

The pipeline runs locally, which is ideal for prototyping and one-off analysis. When you need it on a schedule, monitored on every load, and shared with your team, deploy the same dlt code on the dltHub platform — no infrastructure to maintain. The prompt above already ends with "run it on dltHub", so your agent can take it there directly.

  • Deploy & schedule — run the pipeline as a managed job with automatic retries.
  • Monitor — observable job queues, alerting, and load metrics for every run.
  • Transform — promote raw TikTok Business loads into governed, documented models.
  • Visualize & share — explore data in notebooks and publish live dashboards instead of static screenshots.

What other destinations can I load TikTok Business data to?

dlt loads into any of these — only the destination argument changes:

DestinationExample value
PostgreSQL"postgres"
BigQuery"bigquery"
Snowflake"snowflake"
Redshift"redshift"
Databricks"databricks"
Filesystem (S3, GCS, Azure)"filesystem"

Set dlt.pipeline(destination="snowflake") and add credentials in .dlt/secrets.toml. On the dltHub platform the same pipeline runs against a managed Iceberg lakehouse. See the full destinations list.
