Exchangerate.host offers a REST API for real-time and historical currency exchange rates. The API provides endpoints for current rates, historical rates, currency conversion, and currency lists. It supports 168 world currencies. The REST API base URL is https://api.exchangerate.host/ and all requests require an access_key query parameter (API access key).

How do I authenticate with the Exchangerate.host API?

Authentication is performed by appending your access_key as a query parameter (access_key=YOUR_KEY) to requests. No Authorization header is required for the public endpoints described.

1. Get your credentials

  1. Sign up on exchangerate.host or the apilayer marketplace. 2) In your account/dashboard obtain your personal API access key. 3) Use that access key in requests by appending ?access_key=YOUR_KEY (or &access_key=YOUR_KEY) to endpoint URLs.

2. Add them to .dlt/secrets.toml

How do I set up and run the pipeline?

Set up a virtual environment and install dlt:

1. Install the dlt AI Workbench:

3. Start LLM-assisted coding:

Use /find-source to load data from the Exchangerate.host API into DuckDB.

This example loads latest and convert from the Exchangerate.host API into DuckDB. It mirrors the endpoint and data selector configuration from the table above:

To add more endpoints, append entries from the resource table to the "resources" list using the same name, path, and data_selector pattern.


How do I query the loaded data?

Once the pipeline runs, dlt creates one table per resource. You can query with Python or SQL.

Python (pandas DataFrame):
